Solitude

Solitude (or Alleenheid) is a concept that, in today’s fast-paced world, is often misunderstood. It is sometimes seen as a state of withdrawal, even equated with loneliness or depression. Yet, in this painting, I sought to reframe solitude as a space for quiet reflection, peace, and renewal. The tranquil seascape, with its expansive horizon and calm waters, represents the restorative power of time spent alone, away from the noise and distractions of modern life. Here, solitude is not an absence, but a presence—an opportunity to reconnect with oneself, to embrace stillness, and to find clarity amidst the complexities of life. Through the soft, muted tones and gentle rhythms of the sea, I invite the viewer to reflect on the beauty and tranquillity that can be found in moments of solitude and to rediscover its quiet, healing qualities.
