This oil painting was created through the application of multiple thin layers of paint, gradually building depth, atmosphere, and luminosity. Working from dark to light, the composition developed organically, allowing each layer to influence the next. Deep tonal values were established first to create a sense of weight and emotional intensity, while successive layers introduced subtle variations in colour, texture, and light.
This layered approach creates richness and complexity within the seascape, enhancing the contrast between darkness and illumination. The careful emergence of light from shadow reinforces the painting's emotional narrative, drawing attention to moments of hope and transformation within the scene.
